Healthy Teeth Require a Healthy Diet

Healthy teeth need a healthy diet The winter months, along with the holidays, cause many people to focus on their diet. While a healthy diet is great for your body, it also does amazing things for your teeth. Without the right foods, you could have a difficult time achieving good oral health, causing you to suffer many dental health issues as a result. It is not hard to adopt a healthy diet that will make your teeth healthy and strong, and your teeth will thank you in the long run.

A Diet for Oral Health

Try to incorporate as many of these foods into your daily diet in order to achieve optimal oral health:

•  Plenty of water
•  Non-acidic fruits, especially apples, blueberries and cranberries
•  Vegetables, especially carrots and celery
•  Lean proteins
•  Low-fat dairy, especially cheese

Your diet should consist of three meals that include as many of the above food groups as possible along with plenty of water. If you avoid consuming juice, soda, and sugary foods, you can limit your risk of tooth decay and gum disease. The less often that you snack, the healthier your teeth will be because the saliva production when you eat a full meal is much greater than the production when you eat only a snack. Saliva is necessary to wash the bacteria away from your teeth, which is why your Lake Pointe Dental dentists encourage you to avoid snacking whenever possible. Of course, if you have a treat, which everyone needs to do once in a while, make sure that you brush and floss as soon as you can afterwards in order to keep your teeth in good health.
