Easy Ways to Remember to Brush Your Teeth

Maybe you are just too busy and figure you do not have any pain or did not eat any sugar that day so you do not need to brush. The problem is that no matter what you eat, you are putting your oral at risk. Rather than putting yourself at risk, use these simple tasks to help you remember to brush your teeth.

Create New Oral Habits

Stop to think about the reasons you forget to brush your teeth. Are you too tired? Maybe you are too busy? Whatever the case may be, adjust for those reasons. For example, if you are too tired to brush your teeth at night, make it a new habit to brush right after dinner rather than waiting until bedtime. There is no written rule that you must only brush your teeth at bedtime; you can brush them whenever it is convenient for you and honestly, the closer you brush your teeth to the time that you ate, the better your teeth benefit.

If you are too busy, try to find different times of the day to brush that are more convenient for you. Some patients find it beneficial to carry a travel toothbrush with them so that they can brush their teeth when they have a moment to sneak into the bathroom. Other patients brush right upon waking and then again early in the evening. Whatever works for you is what you should do; again, there are no certain times that you must brush, as long as you are doing it twice a day and at regular intervals.

Set your Alarm
Do you have a Smartphone? There are numerous apps or simple alarms that you can use to remind you to brush your teeth. In order to get you back into the habit of brushing twice a day, use these apps to your advantage. You can even find apps that help you keep track of how often or how long you are brushing your teeth. If you do not want to mess with a fancy app or you do not have a Smartphone, simply setting an alarm will help to get you into the habit.

Make Notes
Don't be afraid to go the "old fashioned" route and leave a sticky note on your bathroom mirror, kitchen counter, or even your pillow. These little, colorful reminders can help you stay on track with your oral health habits when you have started ignoring them.

Use Your Kids to Help Remind You
If you have kids, give them the job of reminding you to brush your teeth. If you do not want them to know about your improper tooth brushing habits, move your toothbrush to their bathroom and brush your teeth when they brush theirs. It is very common for parents to get so caught up in caring for their children that they let their own habits fall by the wayside. Rather than letting that happen, brush with them. This way you are setting the right precedence as well as giving your teeth the proper cleaning that they need.

Finding the ways to remember to brush your teeth that work for you is essential for your oral health. Even skipping just one round of tooth brushing per day can increase your chances for tooth decay and gum disease tremendously. Try these simple tricks to see if they work for you! Don't forget to be creative, finding your own ways to instill proper oral health habits.
